1. Who is IV Missions for Youth?
A New Ministry is Born!
Imperial Valley Missions for Youth
Then He (Jesus) said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into the harvest field.” Matt. 9:37, 38
In 2009 Cassandra Whitehead was crowned the Proverbs 31 “Princess of the Year” by Youth for Christ for many reasons, one of them being her passion for missions. Cassie has been an inspiration to many, even her own mother. Through Cassie’s experiences, her mom, Maria Whitehead, has seen the impact that evangelistic mission trips have not only on those being ministered to, but on those who go to serve.
When a teenager leaves his or her comfortable home in America and goes to a foreign country to experience a different culture and share the love of Jesus, it is very often life changing. It can stir in them a passion for the Gospel, compassion for others, a sense of gratefulness for what they have been blessed with and it can set the tone for the rest of their lives. Maria saw the importance of encouraging the youth to do this but also saw the need for resources to help them both financially and with information. She believed God was calling her to do something about this so she began Imperial Valley Missions for Youth.
IV Missions for Youth is a non-profit organization with a Board of Directors that includes: Chairwoman - Maria Whitehead; Treasurer – Cibia Leonard; Secretary – Nicole Rothfleisch; Missions Coordinator – Mandy Gaede; and, Shepherding Pastor - Frank Zazueta. The mission of this ministry is to be a resource for the youth and youth leaders of the Imperial Valley who are interested in missions and to raise funds for a scholarship program designed to financially assist them with participating in mission trips to help spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through evangelism and acts of service. The vision is to see the transformation of lives of the youth of this Valley through the opportunity of experiencing other cultures while sharing the love of Jesus Christ.
Several local teens have already received scholarships from this ministry that helped them pay for their mission trips. Cassandra Whitehead and Amber Shellabarger went to Uganda this past summer to serve in an orphanage and do village outreach. Jose Avalos went to New York to be an intern with Bill Wilson’s Metro Ministries. He is still currently ministering there.
IV Missions for Youth welcomes your donations and prayers and encourages you to support upcoming fundraisers.
